Northeast Neighborhood Trust Acquires 20-Unit Property to Expand Affordable Housing in Kansas City

March 1, 2024

We’re thrilled to announce that the Northeast Neighborhood Trust (NENT), under Integrity Capital Management's leadership as General Managers, has successfully acquired a 20-units across four properties located off Chestnut Avenue and Independence Avenue. This acquisition, made possible with support from Kansas City Housing Trust Funds, is a significant step forward in our mission to provide stable, affordable housing options for Kansas City residents.

Located in a vital area of Kansas City’s Northeast Side, this 20-unit property will help expand NENT’s commitment to preserving affordable, mixed-income housing within the community. With Kansas City Housing Trust Funds’ support, this acquisition enables us to keep rents affordable while maintaining the quality and accessibility of the housing units. As property values and living costs rise, we’re dedicated to preventing displacement by ensuring long-term affordability for current and future residents.

The Northeast Neighborhood Trust is a Mixed-Income Neighborhood Trust (MINT), a model developed to create inclusive neighborhoods that balance affordable and market-rate units. By establishing MINTs, we work to protect communities from the disruptive effects of displacement and gentrification, creating spaces where residents of all income levels can thrive together. With NENT’s latest acquisition, we’re reinforcing this mission by adding more affordable homes to our portfolio.

This project was made possible through our collaboration with Trust Neighborhoods, a nonprofit that helps communities across the country establish MINTs as a response to rising housing costs. Trust Neighborhoods has been instrumental in developing frameworks for sustainable, equitable development that preserves neighborhood identity and stability. Their efforts, alongside support from Kansas City Housing Trust Funds, allow us to maintain affordable housing while fostering a diverse and thriving community on Kansas City’s East Side.

We’re excited to continue working with residents, partners, and local organizations to ensure that these new units provide quality housing for those who need it most. This acquisition is a testament to what can be achieved when communities come together with a shared goal: to make Kansas City a more inclusive and affordable place to call home.

For more updates on this project and our work with NENT, stay tuned as we move forward in our mission to bring sustainable housing solutions to Kansas City’s East Side.
